How it works

From a busy day to time you can account for.

Focal Map runs quietly on your computer, turns what it sees into a timeline of your day and helps you label it. Here's each step — and exactly where the privacy line sits.

01

Notice — metadata only

A lightweight agent notes the app in front, its window title, the website domain and timing. Keyboard and mouse use is counted as a level of activity; the keys themselves, the text and the screen are never captured or stored. Pause it, or switch to private mode (duration only), from the tray at any time.

02

Map — an honest timeline

Moments are grouped into sessions — focused blocks, switches and breaks — using fixed, versioned rules, so your day reads as work rather than noise.

03

Add context — who and what

Optional connections add context: the client behind an email in Outlook and Outlook on the web, calendar and mail signals from Microsoft 365, and the site you're on from the browser extension. All metadata, all your choice.

04

Suggest and group — you confirm

Focal Map proposes what you were working on and groups related activity, so you review a whole afternoon in a few clicks instead of a hundred fragments.

05

Learn — from your labels

Your confirmations shape future suggestions. A label you set always wins over rules and models, so the timeline stays yours to steer.

06

Account — review, bill, export

See totals by client, project and activity. With a Lawyer or MSP pack, Focal Map drafts billable time entries you can edit and export.
