Please don't send screenshots of your timeline unless you're happy for us to see them — we never need your activity data to help.
It tells the Focal Map app on your computer which website your active tab is on, so browser time lands against the right work instead of just "the browser". It shares only the site's domain and a cleaned-up address (search terms, query strings and ID-like parts removed inside the browser), and only after you choose Allow on its welcome page.
The extension works together with the Focal Map desktop app and can't do anything on its own.
Start Focal Map Agent from the Start menu. You'll see the Focal Map icon in the system tray while it's running. To start it automatically, reinstall and tick Start the Focal Map agent when I sign in.
Open the extension's options page: untick Share the active tab's site… to pause, or
choose Withdraw consent to stop it until you allow it again. To remove it, go to
chrome://extensions (or edge://extensions) and choose
Remove.
No — by design it can't run in private windows at all, and it never looks at background tabs, page content, passwords, cookies or your browsing history.
Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit). The installer sets Focal Map up for your Windows account only, so no administrator rights are needed. It works on shared PCs and terminal servers too — each person's timeline stays theirs.
Right-click the Focal Map icon in the system tray: Pause for 15 minutes, Pause for 1 hour, Pause until resumed, or Private mode (duration only), which keeps just how long you were active. Choose Resume to carry on. The icon turns grey while paused or private.
From the tray menu choose Delete last 15 minutes or Delete last hour. To see exactly what's being recorded right now, choose Diagnostics (what is being recorded).
On your own computer, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\FocalMap. Nothing leaves it unless you turn on
a cloud feature yourself.
Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Focal Map → Uninstall. You'll be asked whether to delete your recorded data too — the default is to keep it, in case you reinstall.
The installer isn't code-signed yet, so SmartScreen warns about it. Choose More info → Run anyway. Only download Focal Map from focalmap.co.uk/download.
On your PC, open the Focal Map dashboard → Cloud → Pair a phone, then follow the steps in the phone app's Settings. Everything exchanged between phone and PC is end-to-end encrypted — the Focal Map service can't read it.
While the app is in early access it isn't on Google Play yet: allow your browser to install apps when Android asks. If you had an earlier test version, uninstall it first.
Yes. Email support@focalmap.co.uk from your account's address and we'll export or delete everything held in the cloud for your devices. Data on your own computer is always yours to keep or delete.
Sign in to your account to change the number of devices, see invoices or cancel. Cancelling stops the renewal; Focal Map keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for.
